Old 'warrior' at the top of his game

Ham is not a Colorado aboriginal. He and his wife, Pam, moved to Evergreen 33 years ago from England. They came to Colorado because they heard John Denver pipe about it in the 70s.

Ham has been racing for 35 years now. While it is considered by many to be a young person's sport, Ham will inform you there's something to be said for the old "warriors" who are still competitive on the track.

"It's like going to war and every little component along the way is its own affray. When you do the race, every hour of the race is its own battle. It's a really nice race. I mate that race so much," Ham said.

He is talking about the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Ham has won it twice; most recently, in January, driving the #70 Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8. Ham was one of four drivers on the gang, spending one to two hour stints in the car for 24 hours straight.
