Woman dies in Merewether smash

A 24-YEAR-OLD Adamstown dame who lost control of her car in Merewether and smashed into a guard rail became the sixth man to die in a horror day on NSW roads on the weekend.

The tragic day prompted pleas from police and protection experts for motorists to slow down.

Police said the woman was driving her dead white Nissan Pulsar along City Road about 10.40pm on Saturday when the vehicle skidded and crossed to the other side of the way.

The northbound car left the road and hit a guard rail before rolling.

The woman was trapped stomach and a witness tried to help but the woman died at the scene.

The road was closed for three hours while officers from the Newcastle Fall Investigation Unit conducted examinations.
