Rice feels the Spirit

Buddy Rice's brotherly love may be in Indianapolis, but his focus this weekend is on the Grand-Am Rolex Series, which will race Monday at momentous Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.

Rice captured the 2004 Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway driving for car owners David Letterman and Bobby Rahal.

This year he's driving the Intention of Daytona Coyote Porsche, which is prepped in a race shop in Holly Hill.

The minute, family-owned team is managed by Troy Flis, who grew up in this precinct and fell in love with sportscar road racing at an early age.

Rice appreciates the efforts allowed and strides made at the Spirit team, small in size but with big ambitions.

"I think it doesn't make a difference whether it's a big team or little team," Rice said during a Wednesday teleconference. "Depending on who owns it, the sponsorship, who's on-going it is always different. Some of the big teams are run like small teams and vice versa.
