Citizen patrols set to supplement police

The Mansfield bride was one of 12 who attended the first COPS meeting Thursday night at the Mansfield Guard Department.

According to its Web site, the mission of COPS is to advance community policing as an crap strategy to improve public safety.

"I think neighborhood watch has really helped the older people on our road," said Paige, 57. "We try and look out for one another. I wanted to come (Thursday) to be suitable for an even bigger difference in our neighborhood -- to let people know we're up on crime."

Paige said her two principal concerns are break-ins and drugs.

"I think it's great that the police are helping us with this program," she said of COPS. "It will let criminals distinguish there are people watching."

Mansfield police Capt. Michelle Webb said the four-hour sitting Thursday was an overview and orientation of the program.
